Abandoned Detroit Skyscrapers
July 12th, 2009 | by admin |
http://www.highlandwire.org It is an open secret that the downtown of Detroit, Michigan is as empty as the residential districts that surround it.
On a walking tour of the city core one July 2008 Sunday, this is what I found.

In 1954 there were …
In 1954 there were over 2-million people living within Detroit. It is not only the auto industry in Michigan - and Ohio - that has taken big hits for the last 30-years, but also family farms and lumber mills in the rural counties, the iron ore mining and steel industries, and the copper mining industry. Today, we are looking at probably at least 5-year time period before the economy rises to a higher degree. I live in Detroit and was born here and is is sad to see this here and elsewhere.

Well, since the …
Well, since the 1950’s it’s lost almost a million people. (originally 1,849,568 people, now 900,000)
That’s like everyone leaving the city of San Jose, CA…which has about 940,000 people.
Between 1970-1980, it lost 310,000 people!
Between 1980-1990 it lost about 175,000
between 2000-08 it’s lost 35,000 people.
I think It was the 5th biggest city in the U.S in the 50’s, now it’s #11
The numbers will keep dropping, till it looks like your watching one of those episodes of “Life after Humans”

I have always had …
I have always had fun in Detroit never a dull moment and it’s sad that the nice parts never get shown about Detroit. Palmer Woods, Sherwood Forest, Indian Village, Riverfront, Cork Town. It looks a lot better now than what this video is showing. No wonder Detroit gets a bad rap. But I also blame the auto Industry for not investing back into the Detroit. When will color not play a part of this cities politics?

Detroit was the …
Detroit was the backbone of America & it brought this country out of the Depression with all its manufacturing & industrial mediums and it can be such a place once again. To me Detroit will always signify the presence of American partisanship. People always talk so bad about it but look at Los Angeles - they have so many gangs, ebb, and violence and yet Detroit still gets this namesaked morbid publicity?? Every big city has its bad parts and some more than others. Detroit established circa 1701!

SO STOP CRITISIZING DETROIT!!!!!!!!!!

Old city, bad …
Old city, bad infrastructure, high poverty, high unemployment, high crime rate, no respectable business wanting to come in, its ran by neanderthols. Im not sure if could ever make a comeback. Theyve lost over a million residents in detroit over the decades of decay and trashing of the city.

you have fallen for …
you have fallen for the propoganda of the right. do an accurate fact check…you’ll find that corporations would in fact pay the tax rate you described, if were not all the loopholes they can legally use to avoid taxes. problem is, we can’t attract business from overseas…cause they can go elsewhere and get labor for a few pennies on the dollar, same reason our companies went offshore.
