Curious About Mercedes….?
February 16th, 2010 | by admin |i’ll be in the market for a new vehicle next year & my first choice was a Mercedes. Used ofcourse, i was thinking 2005 C class. How expensive is it to maintain? What about the cost for parts? i own a Land Rover and just spend $500 on a fuel pump so i’m not a stranger to high prices but i’d also like to avoid paying a lot. I also heard that Mercedes was mfd by Daimler-Chysler…is that true?? if it is, what affect does that have on the cost for general maintenance/repairs to the vehicle??
Oh yes, if you have been driving a Land Rover you have been dealing with far more repair bills than you’ll probably ever see from any Mercedes. As with all imported cars parts are more expensive and labor might be higher, too. But the Benz will certainly be a bargain over what you have been driving. As for Diamler-Benz buying Chrysler in 1998, that bad marriage lasted until the summer of last year when Chrysler was sold to a private equity group.

Mercedes doesn’t own Chrysler anymore. They sold it last fall. They have a small stake in it but very little as a group from Canada bought it……ujn

If you’re accustomed to Land Rover prices for parts and servicing, Benz will seem like a bargain in comparison.
DaimlerChrysler no longer exists. That was the company that came into being after the merger of Mercedes Benz and Chrysler. That merger ( formed in 1998 ) dissolved last year when Mercedes sold majority of its share to Cerberus Capital ( although Mercedes still holds a 19.9% share of Chrysler ).

Mercedes is, and always was, Daimler. There has never been a manufacturer called "Mercedes", that’s just a brand, just as "Chevrolet" is a brand manufactured by GM. The brief romance between Daimler Benz and Chysler has no effect on repair cost. If you own a Land Rover, you may be among the few who find Mercedes parts and service to be a bargain. However, the days when Mercedes cars were bulletproof are long gone. If you want low repair costs, try a Toyota.
