Will Daimler Chrysler (Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, etc…) ever be the number one selling automobiles?

September 21st, 2009 | by admin |

I think this is an interesting question and the answers are excellent. My answers:
1. Keep in mind that investors/stock holders (the actual owners of most transportation companies) care about dividends more than being the best seller. In their mind, being a financially healthy fifth place company, is better than a first place middling performer. It is not enough to produce a good product.
2. Chrysler has never been number one. It would take a long-term aggressive commitment to engineering, management, marketing, finance and political acumen in a global setting, to reach this pinnacle. Although you never can say never, this is probably unlikely.
3. Global economics is here to stay. All large production vehicles everywhere are a mixture of international engineering and manufacture. The newer Chrysler would be wise to embrace this concept. I think cooperating with large emerging markets in Asia (like China) is good for America, good for China and good for world stability - economically and politically.

The new Chrysler actually could be number one, maybe not in raw production numbers, but in seizing an opportunity to command a historic place in the new world order. We all hope Cerbus is so motivated.

Well simply put, no, The company has a new direction with the new investment group that purchased the Chrysler unit from dalmer, but it will never be the top seller ,in North America, nether will Ford or GM, especially since toyota is committed to becomming the top dog, even with the sagging dollar the toyota, hondas and Nissans are still better made and will continue to out sell the Big three .

    Hi Bitemeri

If you did not like lemons, would you buy one?
Today’s consumer go for what is reliable and cost efficient.
I like to contribute to the expansion of our Country, but when it comes to an automobile, sorry but we have lost that game long ago.
Remember who invented television? We did. Why are all TVs made anywhere else. Our standard of living demands a top salary, but there is somebody else, somewhere in the world, that makes a good living working for one quarter of our wages in America.Where do you think the major corporations
    will order their goods?
In no time ,you will see how many Chinese made automobiles will be ridding in America highways, because none of the American Auto Manufacturers were able of producing a low cost, but reliable and durable automobile, just like Toyota,Nissan,Honda,Hunday,Suzuki,Kia and I do not Know how many more did.
So you can understand how deep is our mess,Toyota just replaced General Motors as the number one car sales of the world.
But,by all means….If you like lemonade, you will need to buy
    lemons.

    Best Regards

    The Canaryman

they stand a chance of being no-1 again ,but it will take a long time to get that spot back, they have 4 times the competition they once had to do this, but yes they could do it if they tried real hard,it would take 5 strait years of nothing but hard work for them to get back on the no-1 list, and that’s hard to do with all the competition they have now,but there’s always a chance it could happen,it probably wont ever happen ,but it would be nice to see Chrysler re-gain its spot as a top car manufacturer, seems like they cant make their minds up on who wants to own it for now, they once was in the top three, maybe we,ll see that happen in the next 5 years anyway, good luck,

No. Chrysler and Cerberus know that being the biggest car company means nothing. GM is the biggest car company in the world, and they aren’t in very good shape because of it. GM is slow to change because of it’s size. I think Chrysler needs to downsize to remain competetive. They should concentrate on the niche markets that they do so well in. Their most profitable models are their least mainstream. The 2007 Jeep Wrangler, for example, sold out for the year in February, and it harldy qualifies as main stream. The 300C/Charger are very profitable, but they are also less mainstream than their competition. Chrysler tried to make the Sebring mainstream, and it has been a big loss for the company. It would be to Chryslers advantage to keep fighting for those niche markets and not worry about being the biggest auto maker.

Well since Daimler Chrysler no longer exists it can never be the number one auto maker.Daimler deeply hurt Chrysler corporation after the merger several ways the biggest being quality dropped because of the use of really cheap interior parts, poor management I believe to purposely strip Chrysler for its knowledge of how to mass produce vehicles economically plus many broken promises to include they would be equals after the merger.Chrysler should make a strong comeback and they have attracted Toyotas top employees to abandon ship and join them.Japanese quality is a big myth consumer reports gives Honda and Suzuki automatic good ratings. This is surprising since Honda makes the 2 most recalled cars of any active car Division with the Accord at number 1 with 184 recalls since 1990 and the Civic with 160 http://www.mycarstats.com/auto_recalls/auto_recalls.asp is a varifiable reference to those recall numbers. My personel experience of owning and purchasing Chrysler products leads me to believe that the two biggest areas that Chrysler needs to improve on is #1 their dealer network stinks!I have never had anywhere near the problems with getting cars serviced properly and being able to get a straight answer on car pricing from a salesman.#2 advertising Chrysler just doesn’t seem to be able to grasp the concept that good advertising sells products.
