Chrysler Warranty Question?

September 27th, 2009 | by admin |

I purchased 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser Convertible. It is a 2005 model but the first owner bought it in May 2006. In this case, when did the factory warranty start?
VIN history at CARFAX indicates as follows:

07/12/2004 Service Facility
Vehicle serviced
05/06/2006 Motor Vehicle Dept.
Title issued or updated First owner reported Registered as
personal vehicle

The warranty states that it begins on either of the following, whichever comes earlier:

-the date you take delivery of the vehicle
or
-the date when the vehicle was first put into service, for example, as a dealer "demo" or as a DaimlerChrysler Corporation company vehivle.

In this case, does "Vehicle serviced" means "First put into service" that’s stated in the warranty?

if you email me the last 8 characters of your vin i will go on dealerconnect and tell you the official warranty start date.

First put into service meaning when the car started being used, for transportation, not just delivery or movement around the lot. That is, it was either sold and began use by its owner, or the dealer claims that is began use as a tester for the dealership.

This is an important point because I believe that 2005 was the year they offered a 5 year warranty and went back to a 3 year warranty in 2006.

If you are unsure I would call chrysler customer service, not the dealership where you would have any repairs done.

Vehicle serviced would have been to check and fill the fluid levels. Put into service means the date it began being used. So no, your warranty began on the date you took posession.

in 2005 the warranty was 3 years 36k, after the basic warranty is expired, the 7/70 powertrain kicks in that carries $100.00 deduct. the in service date is the day you took delivery of the car. call a dealer with the vin number and ask for the in-service date, the basic warranty expires 3 years to the day of that in service date.

07/12/2004 is when it arrived at the dealer,as a show room car.
5/6/06 is the in service date. All new vehicles are serviced and inspected when they get to the dealer. Also your 05 has a 5/70 power train warrenty. 06’s didn’t have it. You still have a year on the bumper to bumper 3/36 warrenty too.
