Is it basically cheaper to build cars with robots than with people, should the UAW become Wall-Mart welcomers?
October 1st, 2009 | by admin |I worked in a Toyota Factory as the Environmental Engineer. It is amazing how few people are involved in the building of cars
Here is a UAW Chrysler Plant

And this is a typical robotic plant.

If they would get rid of using union workers, their problems would be solved.

Someday it will be cheaper to do EVERYTHING with robots… what will people do then?

Yes machines are cheaper than people. They are never late to work, they don’t take sick days, their production is constant, and their are no health or retirement benefits.
But they do require an initial expense to purchase and are expensive to maintain. When considering a career it is wise to look at the maintenance of these machines rather than putting on bumpers for the next 40 years.

The unions are the root of the problem and until that is addressed they will continue to drag down the car industry- of course only those in the UAW. Thanks to the unions I believe that is why so many company’s leave the US to do business elsewhere. They drive the cost of doing business through the roof and we eventually will have no business in the US.
Toyota and GM made the same amount last year and GM is bankrupt?! It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out who is the cause of the problem.
At least with robots you do not have to pay benefits- yet then there would be that more less jobs in America.

I remember when robots were starting to become widespread in the industry. Guess who opposed them….UAW!
They can probably make more money building and repairing robots than poorly made cars
